A new Walgreens stiore is being built on the Southwest corner of East Main Street and Shaler Drive. This is right off the 151 Expressway to the West and across the street from McDonalds. By the looks of things we would estimate a late Summer or Fall opening.
2008 Alto Fair!
The 2008, 62nd annual Alto Fair will be held on August 6th and 7th In Alto Wisconsin.
2007 Alto Fair
The 61st annual Alto Fair, sponsored by the 4-H and the Farm Bureau was held August 8th and 9th, 2007, at the Fairgrounds in Alto. The Alto Fair is similar to a small County Fair. It begins with breakfast each morning. Last year, more than 1,000 people were served breakfast each day. All the food was at very reasonable pricing. For example, 2 large scoops of delicious Alto Dairy ice cream was $1.50! Try to find that kind of pricing anywhere. Throughout the fair people enjoyed big and small tractor pulls, water fights, kids pedal pull, a carnival, 4-H exhibits, free stage shows, parade, Dog show, all kinds of animals, live stock auctions, horse pull competition, the National Guard helicopter appearance, volleyball games and more great activities. On Wednesday night, patrons welcomed Dan and Paula Siegman with their bluegrass gospel music. On Thursday night patrons were entertained with comedy, magic and juggling from Dennis De Bondt, Dave Fleming and Ken Schulz, the "flying fool" on his unicycle. The fair concluded Thursday night with a fireworks display.
The name of the city, Waupun, is said to be from the original Indian word "Waubun" meaning "early day" or "early light" or "dawn." The name was written incorrectly by the early settlers and hence today we have Waupun instead of Waubun.
